Welcome to Emmaus House

Many people ask us why we are called 'Emmaus' House?  Well, the name comes directly from an account in the Gospel of Luke where we encounter two people on their journey on the road to Emmaus, and our hope is to be with people today as they journey both humanly and spiritually. We aim to provide an integrated approach to spirituality in a safe and homely environment and, whilst we ourselves are based in the Catholic/Christian tradition, we welcome people of all faiths or of none.

As well as a Full Programme of retreats, courses and workshops, Emmaus House provides excellent Facilities for meetings, conferences and private functions.  We are only fifteen minutes away from the motorway network and can also be easily reached by public transport.  For those travelling from a little further afield, Bristol Airport is approximately a twenty-minute taxi journey away. Limited parking is available, although disabled visitors are encouraged to contact us in advance so that we can arrange reserved spaces.

On Sunday 28th September Bishop Chris Toohey from Australia will hold an informal question and answer session here  about faith and climate change, particularly drawing on his experience as Chair of Catholic Earthcare.  We are all being challenged with the knowledge that the climate is changing because of our use of fossil fuels.  So what does faith say to us about our responsibilities and our relationship to the natural world?  What is happening in Australia, which has experienced 10 years of unprecedented drought?  How does Bishop Chris view his role in this changing world?   We hope that this will be a  thought provoking, entertaining afternoon in the beautiful gardens of Emmaus House commencing at 3.00 pm and finishing at around 5.00 pm.

Counselling is now available at Emmaus House with psychotherapist Ebba From offering private sessions, individually and for couples.  For further information, please click here.
