Spirituality and EcologyBishop Declan Lang writes: I warmly welcome the retreats and workshops offered to us by Emmaus House as we begin the International Year of Biodiversity. The situation of Planet Earth urgently requires a response that reflects our spirituality as well as the actions that make a difference. We are part of creation, where people are suffering as a result of the gross inequality of access to resources. We have come to recognise new challenges especially in the field of the natural environment. However, more importantly we are a People of Hope and in a time of change, together we can make a difference.
I invite you to support and attend if you can the many courses and retreats provided at Emmaus House.

Just as each day we open our eyes to the wonder of the natural around us, so spirituality is opening our hearts to a world within, hidden yet real. Inside each person dwells the divine presence for “there is something of God in everyone”. Real inner growth takes off as we take time to let our spiritual side grow stronger. For the spiritual life is like a path or a process we choose to follow and regularly practice. Spirituality is an inner journey then – a springing up from deep within for something more. The human search draws us deeper into the Mystery of Life as we ponder its meaning which will not let us go. The human heart cries out for an intimate and loving relationship. For this we were made. The question then is how to flourish as a full human being in a life-long relationship with the Source of All? “We will not cease from exploration” says the poet, well aware of “the drawing of this love and the voice of this Calling”.
